Project task

The TMRW app is a digital banking platform that provides users with various financial management and banking services through a mobile app. The app's user interface (UI) is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, allowing users to easily navigate and access the various features and functions of the app. The TMRW app is designed to make it easy and convenient for users to manage their financial accounts and perform common banking tasks. This could include features such as personalized recommendations and offers, budget and expense management tools, and streamlined payment and money transfer processes.

As part of the TMRW project, I had to design the fixed deposit feature within the app that allows users to open an account, view their account information, make deposits, withdraw funds, and receive notifications. My responsibilities in this project includes research, validate, prototyping and designing the whole user experience.

Discovery

We’ve looked at the business goals, technical constraints, design considerations, features to sum up the following:

  • With greater financial uncertainty brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, Indonesia’s YPF and YPs seek safe ways to save and invest in which the fixed deposit feature can be utilised through the digital-only solution.

  • Fixed deposits will be essential in capturing a greater share of wallet and growing customer lifetime value.

  • Measured against the competitors and other digital platforms, customers expect TMRW to be ‘always on’ 24/7 and immediate. This is the biggest experience hurdle our customer faces as the PIB downtime is a technical constraint in which our UI/UX hopes to smoothen for the users.

  • Our features that can be leveraged on is our competitive interest rates, shorter tenor options, convenience and accessibility of digital experience, no penalty fee if users decides to terminate early, and safety as TMRW is backed by UOB

  • Through the research conducted, we identified that clarity plays a huge role in the overall experience. We’ve learned that screens should be focused and minimal to maximise visibility of information. The product interface should align to terminology and language that is familiar to the users. Lastly, we aim to prevent errors through careful designs to avoid errors occurring in the first place.

Design

In this phase, we have been working on continuous design solutioning and iterations with product owners and other stakeholders. We validated high fidelity screen designs and prototypes through usability testing.

Things I learned

Users provided positive feedback on the simplicity of using the mobile app to manage their fixed deposits.

  • Application went from potentially 19 form fields (PIB) to 3 taps

  • They appreciated the interactive slider that made it easy for them to create new deposits by selecting the most suitable term.

  • The familiar design pattern enabled users to self-serve and edit deposit renewal / withdrawal on the app.

  • In addition, users can conveniently track the progress of their deposit with the use of progress bar.
